Gift Guide For Day Traders and Investors

10 Gifts to Buy the Stock Market Enthusiast (Day Trader) in Your Life

The holiday season is upon us and it’s that time of year again to select the perfect gift for the people you love. One of the most difficult individuals to purchase a gift for are day traders.

Why?

It’s because somewhere in between a good gift and a gift that is doomed for the Salvation Army, gift givers believe that a clichéd Wall Street related present that depicts a Bull or a Bear is thoughtful and within the realm of acceptability for anyone that does anything related to the stock market.

The truth is traders don’t want that. They live, eat, and breathe the stock market every day. They don’t need gifts that remind them of that fact.

Day traders are highly nomadic, love gadgets, are constantly aware of domestic & international news, pay very close attention to detail, are not afraid of new adventures, and they wake up excited to start the new day.

With that definition in mind, they want gifts that improve or aide their existence. So with that said, let’s get right into the gift guide for Day Traders.

Here’s the list in no particular order:

Computer Chair Upgrade

We recommend the Herman Miller Aeron. This is probably the most famous office chair in the world. The ergonomics and comfort level of the chair is unparalleled. The chair can be up to 3 times your average office chair, so it’s not for the faint of heart.

Better Laptop

Any laptop that is better than the current one used by the day trader in your life will suffice. However, there are some minimum requirements when purchasing a laptop for a day trader. The laptop must be less than 4 pounds and highly dependable. That means, it needs a stable platform with great supporting products. Large screens are nice, but the laptop should be easily portable. So our recommendation is the MacBook Air.

Laptop Bag

If you’re going to spend a thousand dollars on a laptop, then you should have a very high quality Laptop Bag. We recommend the Tri-Star from Tom Bihn. The Tri-Star is a midsize carry-on travel bag replete with useful features — it may just be a business or pleasure traveler’s dream bag.

Mobile Hotspot

Mobile hotspots make great gifts because they let you connect laptops, tablets, or any other WiFi enabled devices to the mobile network of your choice anywhere. Always stay connected. That means, you can literally be on a beach in the middle of nowhere and still be connected to the comfort of the internet.

We don’t have a recommendation here because it’s highly dependent on your carrier. All of the major networks have mobile hotspot plans and devices.

Coffee Shop Gift Card

You really can’t go wrong with a coffee shop gift card. Day traders have the option of being digital nomads. We can go from coffee shop to coffee shop as we please. We are all about supporting independent coffee shop houses, however, for the world traveler, we recommend the Starbucks Card.

Starbucks cards can be reloaded, it’s an international chain, and it acts as a rewards card. That means you get points that you can use towards anything at Starbucks just by following your normal coffee routine. If you go to Starbucks frequently, you’re doing yourself disservice paying with anything other than a Starbucks Card.

A Tablet

The Apple iPad is the current tablet king. Simply put, it placed tablets on the digital map. The iPad is polished, dependable, and has access to the best app market in the world. Day traders love this gadget because it’s versatile. You can use it as an eBook reader or an extra screen for daily computing.

Massage or Spa Treatment

Everyone loves being pampered. Your day trader is no different.

Espresso Machine

We recommend a Nespresso machine. If your day trader does not have time to leave the house to get caffeinated before the market opens, these nifty little machines are the perfect solution. At 60 cents per pod, it’s cost-efficient in the long run for a high quality pick-me-up.

Phone Upgrade

If your day trader is using anything other than a smart phone, then it’s time to get him/her an upgrade. iPhone or Android, it doesn’t really matter. Just make sure it isn’t a BlackBerry. BlackBerry does not have the responsiveness, design, and support for some of the best mobile trading platforms now available.

Sports / Show / Concert Tickets

Day traders love experiencing the world and all it has to offer. Going to shows like Wicked The Musical, attending an NFL game, or getting balcony seats at a symphony orchestra breaks the everyday norm bringing a sense of rejuvenation and energy to an otherwise ordinary work week. Day traders love culture and art. Tickets make an excellent gift.

There you have it. Now you are armed with the knowledge of knowing what to purchase for any stock market enthusiast or professional in your life.

Disclaimer: This is a light-hearted blog post. We understand that all gifts, no matter how big or small, cheap or expensive, and amazing or dull, is greatly appreciated. It’s really the thought that counts!
